Announcement: MACAA Executive Director Resignation

Monticello Area Community Action Agency announces the resignation of Sarah Hanks as Executive Director, after nearly five years of service to MACAA and the community.

Effective July 20, pursuant to MACAA’s succession plan, Trish Anderson, Director of Early Childhood Services, will step in as a temporary interim Executive Director, in collaboration with the senior leadership team, while MACAA secures an outside interim Executive Director to lead the organization while it conducts a search for its next Executive Director.

“Sarah was instrumental in navigating the pandemic, and in strengthening our mission and vision,” said MACAA’s Board Chair, Sarah Shalf. “We deeply appreciate her commitment to MACAA during a challenging time in our organization’s history. We look forward to continuing the work of community action in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Nelson, Fluvanna, and Louisa Counties.”

Since 1965, MACAA has led the effort to eradicate poverty in Central Virginia, empowering families to navigate pathways to prosperity by educating, inspiring, and advocating for those in need. MACAA looks forward to announcing its next interim Executive Director and sharing the details of its search for a permanent Executive Director with the community. In the meantime, questions may be directed to Board Chair Sarah Shalf at sshalf@macaa.org.
