Today, we are excited to share a success story that highlights the profound impact of our dedicated efforts and the incredible resilience of our clients.
“August of 2013, I was employed at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women. Having really bad anxiety once arriving at work, I realized this wasn’t going to work out. At the time that was my only source of income, and I was the only legal guardian to my cousin, who attended Scottsville Elementary School. I quit working at the prison and became deeply depressed, uncertain of how to pay bills and take care of my cousin whom I had had since she was born.
After being asked to move, I was lost, but my neighbor allowed us to stay with her family until the school year ended. Word got back to my cousin’s teacher or social worker at SES about our living situation, I received a call providing me resources one in particular “The Hope House”! Once I spoke with Nancy Kidd to set up a meeting to do the application and other paperwork, I was in disbelief this was happening. We moved into a townhouse on Forest St, in Charlottesville and Nancy, was there every step of the way. Nancy was a shoulder to cry on and always lent a listening ear. The Hope House program kept us together. I was born and raised in Charlottesville, my whole family is there but there was no family support, ONLY NANCY! I went on to graduate from the program but took full advantage of all it had for me.
I am very appreciative of the opportunity I was awarded and the Godly relationship I have with Nancy! God blessed us with Nancy and the Hope House program. I am currently a driver with UPS, I have purchased a house, and I am doing good for myself. I also donate the maximum amount to programs like the Hope House! Nancy gave me a second chance and it was at the perfect time! I haven’t forgotten all the times Nancy was there for us and we have a relationship to date.
Nancy believed in me when my family turned their backs on me. She showed me love, patience, support and mostly family isn’t blood kinship.
I will always brag about my opportunity and what I accomplished during my stay.
We love you, Nancy!”
