2020-21 Head Start program
Head Start program applications (English and Spanish) are available for download below. Please choose the correct application based on your home address. To be eligible for the 2020-21 school year program, children must be three or four-years-old by September 30, 2020.

Update: Beginning Tuesday, April 21, LCPS staff will be accepting preschool program applications by phone. To complete the application over the phone, call (540) 603-9290 between 8:30am and 3:30pm. You may also use their online form to submit electronically. For more information, please visit: https://preschool.lcps.k12.va.us/

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my child eligible?
Eligibility is generally based on family income at or below the poverty level according to the Poverty Guidelines published by the federal government. Children in foster care, homeless children and children from families receiving public assistance (TANF or SSI) are eligible regardless of income.
To be eligible for the 2020-21 school year program, children must be three or four-years-old by September 30, 2020.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR HEAD START?
Start by choosing the correct application form from the above resources. Follow the instructions to complete one application for each child. Remember to include all sources of household income and current proof of residency with your completed application.

When is my application due?
Please note, application deadlines are subject to change, due to the COVID-19 crisis. Questions regarding application deadlines can be sent to Lina Abril-Montoya at lmontoya@macaa.org.
Charlottesville City application deadline is March 1, 2020. Families of four-year-olds will be notified of placements decisions in April. Families of three-year-olds will be notified of placement decisions in May.
Albemarle County application deadline is April 15, 2020. Families will be notified of placement decisions the first week of May.
Fluvanna County application deadline is April 3, 2020. Families will be notified of placement decisions in May.
Nelson County application deadline is April 10, 2020. Applications will be reviewed by the end of April. Families will be notified of placement decisions by April 24.
Louisa County application deadline is April 21, 2020. Applications will be reviewed in May. Families will be notified of placement decisions the first week of June.
